Prof. Tjandra Anggraeni, Ph.D.
Ketua Kelompok Keilmuan Fisiologi, Perkembangan Hewan & Sains Biomedika
Currently, the Physiology, Animal Development and Biomedical Science Scientific Group (KK FPHSB) consists of 10 research lecturers, with a coverage of scientific fields including (1) structure, (2) cell biology, (3) physiology, (4) developmental biology, (5) toxicology, and (6) immunology. There are six main research topics conducted in the FPHSB Research Group, namely, (1) behavioral biology, (2) medical entomology, (3) nutrigenomics, physiology, and disease studies, (4) reproduction and developmental biology, (5) cancer studies and toxicology, and (6) aging and wound healing.
In 2021, the FPHSB Team obtained five new research grant from internal (ITB) and external (RISPRO LPDP) competitive funding with total funding of more than 700 million rupiah. Among the new funded research is the utilization of antiviral bioactive compounds from indigenous Indonesian plants for the prevention of SARS-CoV-2 virus replication based on miRNA modulation (funding value 325 million rupiah). The research was led by Dr. Marselina Irasonia Tan, who used stem cell exosome culture application for antiviral testing. In addition, the FPHSB Group also obtained funding (300 million rupiah) to carry out five new community service projects in 2021, spread across two provinces (West Java and North Sulawesi) and five fostered groups/villages. One of them is an activity to strengthen the material utilization of marine animals at the Nusa Utara State Polytechnic, North Sulawesi, led by Dr. Indra Wibowo.
Lecturer members of the FPHSB Research Group are also active in external collaboration/networking activities including as educational practitioners/team of experts (3 people), lecturers and final project supervisors (5 people) at a number of foreign universities both at home and abroad (Dr. Anggraini Barlian, Osaka University). Three research projects were carried out in collaboration with outside universities/institutions, namely, exosome technology research (FKG UGM, FKM UNAIR, Faculty of Food Technology, IPB), policy development research for dengue fever prevention (NCHU Taiwan), and zebrafish development research as an animal model for toxicology studies (NUS). Six members of the research team are also involved in professional membership in various organizations such as the Indonesian Stem Cell Committee, Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Products (international), Indonesian Biological Society, and Indonesian Entomological Society. In addition, six FPHSB KK research lecturers are also involved as members in research and community service activities in other units both internal (ITB) and external (West Java LABKESDA, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Religion, Research Institute for Molecular Pathology, Vienna). Currently, there is one visiting professor who assists research activities at the FPHSB, namely Prof. Dr. Frank Röshl from the Germane Cancer Research Center.
A summary of some of the achievements of FPHSB lecturer members in the field of research throughout 2021 includes:
- 44 publications in reputable national and international journals
- 1 book chapter
- 2 IPRs (1 in process, 1 granted)
- 1 article in national mass media
- 5 reviewers in 8 national and international journals
Proud achievements were made by Dr. Marselina Irasonia Tan and Dr. Indra Wibowo who each received awards as the best lecturers in research and teaching at the 62nd ITB Anniversary. Also, Dr. Anggraini Barlian won second place in the ITB 2021 research presentation activity.
Finally, the FPHSB Group is also proud of the achievements of Dr. Indra Wibowo's students, Alfred Patisenah (Microbiology class of 2018) and Daisy Ramadhani Muhammad (Biology class of 2018), who won first place in the international student research competition, XVI Fujio Cup 2021.
